GOTS relies on high standards for ecological and social parameters to ensure that organic textiles meet the highest standards. The GOTS certification process pays attention to environmental compatibility and fair working conditions. Organic raw materials are produced without toxic pesticides and fertilizers to maintain and restore soil fertility. In addition, GOTS sets standards for animal welfare and prohibits the use of genetically modified organisms.
Protection, Credibility, and Public Relations
The credibility of the GOTS seal is of utmost importance, and therefore, any suspicion of unlawful or misleading use is consistently pursued and sanctioned to ensure that only sustainably and responsibly produced textiles are allowed to bear the seal.

The GOTS standard aims to define globally recognized requirements to ensure the certified organic status of textiles – from the harvesting of raw materials to the labeling of finished products. This enables textile processing companies to export their organic fabrics and clothing globally and to gain acceptance in important markets.
GOTS supports sustainable textile production and contributes to achieving the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. With a flat organizational structure and as a non-profit limited liability company (gGmbH), GOTS uses all revenue to continuously develop the standard.
